They are supported by surrounding soft and hard tissues of the oral cavity. A full denture, also called a complete denture, replaces all of the natural teeth and provides support for cheeks and lips. By replacing missing teeth, dentures not only support sagging facial muscles, but also improve a person&#8217;s ability to speak and eat. Full dentures are divided into two categories &#8211; conventional and immediate &#8211; depending on when they are made and inserted into the mouth.<\/p>\n<p>Conventional dentures are made and inserted after the remaining teeth are removed and the tissues have healed. Immediate dentures are inserted immediately after the removal of the remaining teeth. The advantage of immediate dentures is that the patient does not have to be without teeth during the healing period. However, immediates may require adjustment to fit properly after gums shrink from the healing period.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>Removable Dentures<\/h2>\n<p>A removable partial denture fills in the space created by missing teeth and fills out your smile. A removable partial denture usually consist of replacement teeth attached to pink or gum-colored plastic bases, which are connected by metal framework, and attach to your natural teeth with metal clasps or precision attachments. However, since dentures sit in the mouth on top of the gums there are no tooth roots to anchor and stimulate bone growth and strengthen the jawbone. This is a combination of a number of implants surgically implanted into the jawbone (good for bone stimulation and growth) and a denture which can be removed and cleaned. This option prevents bone deterioration that can lead to periodontal disease. Patients who go this route also experience an easier time talking and chewing. In addition to these benefits, since there is no bone loss in the jaw there is no slippage and the denture does not need to be resized.<\/p>\n<strong data-userway-font-size=\"16\">Dental Bridges<\/strong>\u00a0are often a solution for a row of missing teeth. The bridge is connected to two natural teeth on either side of the gab which are shaved down and replaced with crowns. The crowns serve as anchors to the bridge.\nLike dentures, a dental bridge sits on top of the gum line. Since there is no tooth root stimulating the jaw bone, the bone eventually disintegrates. Once this process has begun it often leads to a situation where the bridge slips and no longer fits properly because of the degradation of the bone and the receding of the gum line. This slippage can create a gap allowing plaque and bacteria into the jaw leading to a host of other health issues like periodontal disease.\nLike the implant supported dentures discussed above, an Implant Supported Bridge is also anchored by two dental implants. This preserves the integrity of the two natural teeth that now do not have to be shaved down and fit with dental crowns.
